BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain football team will be hoping to right their ship with an upset win over rival Bellfonte tonight. Working from opposite ends of the spectrum the Wildcats (0-3) are still looking for their first win, while the Red Raiders hope to improve to 4-0 on the season tonight. The issue will be settled tonight with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Malinak Stadium.
A pregame Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held for this year’s inductees: Brooke Williams (Martin), a 2001 Central Mountain graduate who excelled in soccer and basketball and Von Walker, a 3-sport (football, baseball, basketball) standout who graduated in 2013. Their induction ceremony will be part of therecord-online live coverage at 6:45 p.m.
The Red Raiders continue to improve under coach Shannon Manning: 5-6 in 2016, 10-3 a year ago and the perfect start this year, including last week’s 55-7 romp over Philipsburg-Osceola.
The Raiders have been paced by junior running back CJ Funk (6-0, 200) who has rushed for 282 yards at a 7.4 yard per carry clip this season. He also has picked up two sacks from his linebacker position and added 132 yards in kickoff and punt returns.
Kyle Myers (6-0, 195) has stepped in as quarterback, transferring from West Branch High School. A senior, Myers has completed 22 of 37 passes for 307 yards for four touchdowns and no interceptions; he’s added another 193 yards rushing in 47 carries.
The Wildcats have been competitive with Bellefonte, losing a 34-31 three-overtime contest on the road a year ago; two years ago Central Mountain downed Bellefonte by a 24-21 score.
The record-online will offer live audio stream of the game with John Lipez and Tom Elling offering up the call to bring you all the action. The stream will go live approximately 15 minutes before the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
