FARWELL – Thanks to the generosity of sportsmanship by the Bellefonte wrestling team, coaching staff and fans, there will be a change of venue for tonight’s Red Raiders at the Wildcats wrestling match. These two storied programs will toe the line at Bucktail High School this evening to allow members of the Central Mountain squad that hail from western Clinton County the opportunity to exhibit their talents in front of their ‘hometown’ fans. This will be the second occasion since Bucktail entered into a co-op participation for wrestling with Central Mountain to host a dual meet since entering the co-op.
The action should be quite competitive tonight as both teams are in the hunt for a District 6 Team Duals crown later this week. Bellefonte (9-4) has been solid this season despite missing several returnees to their lineup from a year ago. Central Mountain (11-1) has been relentless in their march through the season with but one blemish on their record.
Comparing common opponents, Bellefonte (No. 4 seed in the D6 Duals) had losses to Shikellamy (35-25) and Bald Eagle Area (42-35). The Red Raiders finished 28th in the team race at King of the Mountain and 19th at the Conestoga Valley Holiday Wrestling Classic. The Wildcats (No. 2 seed in the D6 Duals) defeated Shik 43-16 and also fell to BEA (39-33). The ‘Cats finished 3rd at KoM and earned a 2nd place finish in the team race at Conestoga. This Saturday, both teams could have a shot at redemption with BEA as Bellefonte will face the No. 1 seed Eagles in the first round while CM will take on No. 3 seed Mifflin County. Winners of those matches will meet in the finals. Fans can be assured, both teams will take a focused measure of their opponents tonight to use as a barometer for all the possibilities that may come to pass later in the week.
The varsity match is slated for 7 p.m. this evening.
The record-online will offer live audio stream of the match and will also broadcast audio on WBPZ AM 1230 with John Lipez and Tom Elling offering up the call to bring you all the action. The stream will go live approximately 15 minutes before the start.
