WILLIAMSPORT – After two postponements due to the annoying late spring monsoon weather patterns plaguing the region this week, Bucktail and Montgomery will hopefully decide the District 4 Class A championship at Williamsport’s Elm Park Field Two at 11 a.m. today. The weather forecast for today appears to be much more pleasant with zero percent precipitation under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.
The two teams truly squeaked their way to victory in their back-to-back semifinal wins last Friday. Number two seed Montgomery (17-3) advanced first, using a Taylor McRae two-out 3-run homerun to down Northeast Bradford by a 6-4 score. The top-seeded Lady Bucks (18-2) advanced shortly thereafter with a pulsating 9-8 come-from-behind win over Galeton.
No matter Thursday’s winner, both will advance into the PIAA Class A state tournament starting Monday, June 3.
Today’s finalists split their two regular season meetings. Bucktail coach Mike Poorman, noting the lop-sided nature of the two regular season games between the Mid Penn Conference co-champs, said “hopefully this one can be a competitive game from start to finish.” He told therecord-online, “Montgomery is a tough team; they’ve won 16 of their last 17 games. They are well coached and have quality players in all nine positions.”
Elm Park is located at 1681 W 4th St, Williamsport, PA, just east of Bowman Field and the Original Little League fields complex.
The record-online will offer live audio stream of the game with John Lipez offering up the call to bring you all the action. The stream will go live approximately 15 minutes before the first pitch.
