BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain wrestling team, off another solid December, will look to build on that performance in the new year, starting tonight with a home meet with the Jersey Shore Bulldogs.
The Wildcats will take the mat coming off a third successive second place finish at the 26-team Conestoga Valley Holiday Tourney, another balanced performance which saw 12 team members win at least two matches and 10 in all earn places.
For Central Mountain tonight will be just the third dual meet of the year, the Wildcats 1-1 after the December 39-33 loss to Bald Eagle Area. Jersey Shore comes into the Thursday dual with a 3-2 mark, losses coming to State College 52-36 and Mifflinburg 37-21. The two teams have one common opponent in Shamokin. The Wildcats beat the Indians 63-6, the Bulldogs defeating Shamokin by a 36-22 count.
Jersey Shore has been hampered by forfeits, having no entries in the first three weights in last weekend’s Conestoga Valley event. Jersey Shore did crown a champion in Hunter O’Connor at 182 pounds and had a sixth from David Tomb at 195. Jersey Shore finished in 15th place.
After the Wildcat home dual with Jersey Shore, the ‘Cats will stay at home for a match with Midd-West Tuesday, Jan. 9 then travel to Dallastown on Saturday, Jan 13 for a first-ever participation at the Dallastown Duals.
Before the proceedings of the Central Mountain vs. Jersey Shore varsity wrestling match, Central Mountain High School will honor William Holland Jr. and Anna Holland with a ceremony to officially name Central Mountain High School’s wrestling room ‘The William Holland, Jr. and Anna Holland Wrestling Room’.
The varsity match is slated for 7 p.m. this evening.
