BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain’s 34-31 overtime loss at Bellefonte had to be staggering for the Wildcats, a valiant effort against the favored Red Raiders and what many thought was a Wildcat win in the third of four overtimes. But the end result went to the Raiders, the heart-breaking loss dropping Central Mountain to 0-4 with Clearfield coming to Malinak Stadium tonight.
Can the Wildcats build on their best collective effort last week in a so far winless season? And what about Clearfield, a Bison team traveling east on Interstate 80 with an uncharacteristic 2-2 mark? The visitors are used to success under longtime coach Tim Janocko: 10-2 last season (including a 28-7 win over the Wildcats), 9-2 in 2015, 9-3 in 2014, 13-1 in 2013.
The Bison come to Bald Eagle Township off a wild 45-27 loss to Huntingdon (4-0) last Friday. Clearfield picked up 484 yards of offense but a young Bison defense gave up 519 yards, much of it in the first quarter which saw Huntingdon open a 28-7 lead.
Central Mountain will have to brace for a Bison passing attack; their quarterback Isaac Rummery (jr, 5-11, 181) passed for 313 yards and also had a 66-yard touchdown run last Friday. For the year he has 618 yards passing (37-for-58) with eight touchdowns and three interceptions; he has rushed 31 times for 113 yards and two scores.
Central Mountain meanwhile had some success moving the ball against Bellefonte (3-1), finishing with 313 yards of offense. Senior Austyn Carson passed for 196 yards and ran for another 65.
